Report: Kanye West campaign rally part of 'terrible' bipolar episode

Reports from a celebrity gossip site claim Kanye West’s recent behavior — including at a presidential campaign rally in which he cried, said he had wanted to have one of his children aborted and criticized abolitionist Harriet Tubman — is part of a “terrible” bipolar episode that has sent shockwaves through his family.

Page Six, a gossip site run by the New York Post, cites anonymous sources close to West and wife Kim Kardashian who say they don’t know if the couple’s marriage can survive the situation.

West announced on July 4 he was running for president. He spoke at a rally Sunday in South Carolina wearing a bulletproof vest and with “2020” shaved into his hair.

Kardashian, Page Six claims, was “mortified” that West said he initially wanted to abort one of the pair’s children in 2012. They have four children.

In a Monday story, the website reported West said on Twitter “Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up like on the movie Get Out because I cried about saving my daughters life yesterday.” The tweet, referring to a $14 million Wyoming ranch he bought with Kardashian, is no longer available.

The rapper revealed his bipolar diagnosis in 2019. A “psychiatric emergency” in 2016 caused him to be hospitalized hours after an onstage rant in which he criticized friend Jay-Z and Beyonce, according to Page Six.

“The family is trying to work out what to do,” a source told the website, “and hoping that this nightmare will be over soon and they can get Kanye into treatment.”

The source said, “The sad thing is that when he recovers, he realizes what he’s done and he apologizes.”

West, who until recently presented himself as a supporter of President Trump, has filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission, with his party listed as “BDY,” or the Birthday Party. He has missed the deadline to qualify for the ballot in a number of states, but will appear on ballots in Illinois and Oklahoma, the latter of which requires only a $35,000 filing fee. He did not meet the deadline to appear on the ballot in South Carolina, where the campaign rally was staged.

Amid questions about how serious West is about his presidential bid, reports citing adviser Steve Kramer said last week that he was dropping out.

”He’s out,” Kramer told New York Magazine’s The Intelligencer. But that was before Sunday’s campaign rally.
