Dolly Parton changes words to ‘Jolene’ to encourage covid vaccinations
Country music legend Dolly Parton changed the words to her 1973 hit song “Jolene” to encourage people to get the covid-19 vaccine.
Parton received the vaccination in Nashville, Tenn., on Tuesday. She posted the new version of “Jolene,” on Instagram.
“Well, hey, it’s me, I am finally going to get my vaccine. I am so excited. I have been waiting awhile. I am old enough to get it and I’m smart enough to get it. So I am very happy that I am going to get my Moderna shot today. I wanted to tell everybody that you should get out there and do it too. I even changed one of my songs to fit the occasion.”
“Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, I’m begging of you please don’t hesitate. Vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, vaccine, because once you’re dead then that’s a bit too late.
I know I am trying to be funny now but I am dead serous about the vaccine. I think we all want to get back to normal, whatever that is and that would be a great shot in the arm wouldn’t it.”
Parton is 75. Last year, she donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville for coronavirus research.
She said on Instagram, “Dolly gets a dose of her own medicine.”
