Book, Zoom sessions take a new look at Henry Clay Frick
Coal and coke magnate Henry Clay Frick is the topic of two upcoming Zoom discussions hosted by the Fayette County Cultural Trust and author Cassandra Vivian.
The discussions are planned for 11 a.m. April 28 and 4 p.m. April 30.
Mt. Pleasant resident Vivian is the author of a new book on Frick, “Henry Clay Frick and the Golden Age of Coal and Coke, 1870-1920.”
Zoom sessions will cover the book’s view on the importance of Frick’s role in the growth of the industry, primarily in Fayette and Westmoreland counties, along with the miners — many of them immigrants — who did the work, the growth of unions and the attendant strikes and attempts to mitigate water pollution brought about by the industry.
