Pittsburgh City Councilman Corey O’Connor announced Friday that he will run for a third term in 2018.
O’Connor, the son of late Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O’Connor, said if re-elected he would focus on economic development in Squirrel Hill and Hazelwood, among other things.
He was first elected in 2011 to fill a vacant District 5 seat and won re-election in 2015.
O’Connor, 34, of Swisshelm Park, is among five city council members whose four-year terms expire in December.
All have said they plan to seek re-election. They include council President Bruce Kraus of South Side, Ricky Burgess of North Point Breeze, Deb Gross of Highland Park and Darlene Harris of Spring Hill. Candidates have announced plans to challenge Kraus, Burgess and Harris for their seats. No candidates, so far, have emerged to challenge Gross and O’Connor.
O’Connor’s district includes Squirrel Hill South, Regent Square, Swisshelm Park, Greenfield, Hazelwood, Glen Hazel, Hays, Lincoln Place, and New Homestead.
