U.S. Sen. John Fetterman is home with his family after two days in a Pittsburgh hospital.

In a post on the X social media platform Saturday afternoon, Fetterman shared that he received 20 stitches after falling during a walk Thursday. He also posted a photo of his facial injuries.

In the caption with the photo, Fetterman wrote: “20 stitches later and a full recovery, I’m back home with @giselefetterman and the kids. I’m overwhelmed + profoundly grateful for all the well-wishes. See you back in DC.”

Fetterman was taken to a Pittsburgh hospital Thursday “out of an abundance of caution,” his office posted on X.

“During an early morning walk, Senator Fetterman sustained a fall near his home in Braddock,” the post read. “Out of an abundance of caution, he was transported to a hospital in Pittsburgh.”

Fetterman, 56, a stroke survivor, had a heart issue described in the post as a “ventricular fibrillation flare-up” and lightheadedness that precipitated the fall.

According to the Mayo Clinic, ventricular fibrillation is a type of irregular heart rhythm that impacts the heart’s ability to pump blood to the rest of the body.

Symptoms can include loss of consciousness, chest pain, dizziness, a fast heartbeat, shortness of breath and nausea, the Mayo Clinic’s website said.

Just after his stroke in 2022, Fetterman, a Democrat, underwent surgery to implant a pacemaker with a defibrillator.
