Fire trucks from area departments descended on a Westmoreland Mall parking lot Tuesday to spread awareness about fire prevention.

The 29th annual Hempfield-Greensburg Fire Prevention Night drew families who, despite rainy weather, got to check out the rigs and demonstrations from firefighters. It was a regional opportunity for fire departments to share prevention messages with the community, while showcasing their training, equipment and capabilities.

Engine pumpers, ladder trucks and vent trucks were among the vehicles participating at the Hempfield mall. Some youngsters got a chance to test out battling a blaze by holding a fire hose.

National Fire Prevention Week runs through Saturday.
