Sewickley Public Library remains closed until further notice after a leak from its heating and air conditioning system caused extensive water damage, according to a post on the library website.

The community room, non-fiction section, computer area and staff workrooms were damaged.

The problem was unrelated to recent work on the library’s heating and air conditioning systems, according to the post.

About 100 items in the non-fiction print and audio collections were damaged. Most of the flooding affected the ceilings, drywall, shelving and flooring.

Restoration crews have been on-site since Friday, using industrial-sized fans to dry the impacted areas. Collections have been moved from the affected rooms.

A target date to reopen was unclear.

“We are still determining when we can reopen,” the post read.We hope it will be soon. Please know we are just as eager to bring our services back as many of you are.”

In the meantime, the outdoor book drop-off is open and at least one event will move forward.

The library will host the Broadside Terrace Garden Party, as scheduled, on Thursday so long as weather cooperates.

Items on hold that were scheduled to expire during the library’s closure will be extended through Monday.

Updates will be shared online.
