Workers laid down artificial turf Friday at the site of what is set to become the Springdale Dynamos’ new athletic home field.

The field, across Butler Road from Springdale Jr.-Sr. High School, will host Allegheny Valley football and soccer this fall as well as track and field in the spring.

The installation of the artificial turf by FieldTurf USA Inc. is the latest step in a construction process that has been ongoing since June.

After laying the surface, crews will begin filling it in with thousands of pounds of rubber pellets.

This fall will mark Springdale’s second season away from Veterans Memorial Field on Lincoln Avenue, where the team played for 84 years before lease discussions between the district and the borough fell through.

The district said the new field will be ready for the Dynamos’ home opener against the Avella Area Eagles on Sept. 5.
