Traffic restrictions will start at 7 a.m. Saturday, March 29, in North Park for a fundraiser to benefit a cancer charity, Allegheny County Police announced Friday.

A large turnout is expected for the 25th annual Sean T. Smith Just a Short Run that will begin with pre-race ceremonies at 8 a.m. and the race starting at 8:30 and 8:35 at the North Park Boathouse on Pearce Mill Road.

Pearce Mill Road, Kummer Road from McKinney to Brown roads, Lake Shore Drive and Walter Road will have periodic stoppages and delays throughout the morning, county police said. Drivers are urged to use caution while traveling through the area.

Just a Short Run brings together runners and walkers of all levels to tackle distances ranging from 5 to 30 kilometers in support of Cancer Bridges, a nonprofit providing free support services to those impacted by cancer.

It honors the memory of Sean T. Smith, who lost his battle with leukemia in 1995.

In addition to a fundraiser for cancer charities, the event has been a staple in the Pittsburgh running community and serves as a key training race for spring marathons.

Fundraising and donations are expected to top $10,000 by race day. The anniversary celebration will include commemorative swag, custom finisher and award medals and post-race festivities.
