The Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department kicked off its fish fry season with lunch on Ash Wednesday.

About 20 volunteers operated multiple stations and served more than 200 pieces of fish at the start of the Lent fundraiser at the Tuttle Social Hall off Old Abers Creek Road.

Josh Scalamogna, Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department fish fry coordinator and second assistant chief, said he anticipates serving more than 1,000 hand-breaded pieces of fish each Friday through Good Friday.

Other menu items include jumbo shrimp, crab cakes, french fries, haluski with egg noddles, cole slaw, pierogis, apple sauce, in-house mac’n cheese, pizza and a variety of desserts.

“This is a seven-day-a-week process for the seven weeks of fish fry, and it starts two weeks prior,” Scalamonga said of the station’s preparation.

Fish prices went up $1 to help cover rising costs. Other increases, including credit card processing fees, are not being passed on to patrons.

Hours of operation are Fridays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Good Friday hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

People can order ahead of time via phone at 724-327-3456.
