Gateway School Board members voted unanimously to replace the surface of the batter’s box and pitching area at the high school athletic field for a total of $11,937.

The vote was 9-0 this week to approve the proposal from Shaw Turf.

Continuing the discussion that began at a recent study session, several of the board members said they want to see a deposit from any outside groups using Gateway’s fields.

“We are still very much in the infancy of this. We have a lot to work on and a lot to get through, but it is something we’re talking about,” director of facilities John Walsh said.

Walsh said he hopes to have a plan in place by July.

“We will advance it as fast as we possibly can,” he added.

The board also voted unanimously to approve a grass cutting and trimming bid with Dakota Grove Landscaping from 2025 through 2027.

Prices per cut are $2,620 for 2025, $2,751 for 2026 and $2,944 for 2027.

Business Manager Mike Zourelias indicated the cost per cut is for all properties with the exception of the hillside at Gateway Middle School. That will be cut with the Kubota tractor that the board agreed to purchase at the Oct. 28 meeting at a cost of $44,279.60.
