In light of two incidents in the past two weeks where Chartiers Valley schools were closed due to threats, district officials said Monday that there will be an additional security presence at the district’s buildings throughout the week.

The district’s statement was to combat what they said were rumors and misinformation circulating on social media.

Chartiers Valley schools were closed Friday after a threatening note against the schools was found.

A 17-year-old boy was taken into custody Friday evening and charged with terroristic threats and harassment, police said. A district official confirmed the teen is still in custody.

Detectives linked a Nov. 11 threat made against Chartiers Valley to the same teenager, who was not named by authorities. That threat also disrupted operations at Parkway West Career and Technology Center. Bridgeville police said at the time they were pursuing charges against the teen “on separate charges stemming from separate incidents.”

Chartiers Valley officials said that the teen has not been present at the high school, “and does not have the ability to be on campus.”

“We wish we could provide more details, however because this individual is a juvenile, we are limited to what can be shared,” the statement said.
