When Pitt defeated Florida State last month, 88-73, coach Jeff Capel wasn’t only keeping an eye on his players.

He watched as Florida State center Cam Corhen scored 25 points, more than one-third of his team’s total, and grabbed eight rebounds. Capel didn’t forget the name, and when Corhen entered the transfer portal after the season, the recruiting process began and was finalized Monday when Corhen made a verbal commitment to Capel and the Panthers.
Corhen, who started 33 games for the Seminoles over the past two seasons, brings a big body (6-foot-10, 225 pounds) to Pitt’s frontcourt. He looks to be an offensive upgrade over former Pitt center Federiko Federiko, who entered the transfer portal at the end of the season.
During the 2023-24 season, Corhen averaged 9.4 points, 3.9 rebounds and 21.3 minutes while shooting 62.9% from the field (110 of 175), nearly equal to his 67.2% effort from the free-throw line (43 of 64). He started 12 of 27 games.
He led the Seminoles in scoring seven times and rebounds eight. He also recorded double-doubles against Georgia Tech (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Florida (18/10). Against Duke, he came off the bench to score 14 points with nine rebounds, but was held to three and two in his last game for Florida State, a 92-67 loss to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament.
As a freshman in 2022-23, Corhen averaged 8.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 23.8 minutes while starting 21 games.
A native of Allen, Texas, Corhen played at Sunrise Christian Academy in Bel Aire, Kansas, where he was a four-star prospect and the No. 21 center in the nation, according to Rivals.com.
He attracted interest from several schools, including Arizona, Florida, Houston, Kansas, Creighton, Illinois, TCU and Texas A&M.
