Police: Pittsburgh man dies in crash along Freeport Road in O’Hara

A Pittsburgh man has died after being involved in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday evening along Freeport Road in O’Hara, Allegheny County Police reported.

Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Michael Vernon, 74.

An Allegheny County emergency dispatcher said the wreck occurred around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Freeport and Powers Run roads.

Police said Vernon was the front-seat passenger of a Chevrolet SUV driven by a 68-year-old woman.

The woman was hospitalized in critical, but stable condition. Vernon died at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh.

The Chevrolet collided with a Jeep SUV driven by a 28-year-old woman with an infant in the rear seat.

Police said that woman and child were taken to area hospitals in stable condition.

None of the injured people were immediately identified by name.

The scene south of the Hulton Bridge remained active as of 10:15 p.m.

Allegheny County Police continue to investigate.
