Sewickley officials hope to replace multiple light poles in the borough through an Allegheny County grant.

Council unanimously voted at its Oct. 11 meeting to seek a $500,000 grant from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County.

President Cynthia Mullins said the focus is on the lights in the business districts.

“The green light poles are located along Broad and Beaver streets,” she said. “The light pole project will involve replacing 20-25 poles that are exhibiting some corrosion. Each pole costs approximately $12,000 to $16,000, depending on whether it supports one or two lamps.”

The poles being replaced are about 22 years old.

There is no match for the grant, which is expected to be awarded by the end of November.

“If the grant is not awarded for this project, council will look at its options going forward,” Mullins said.

It is unclear if the project would be done this year or the next.

Borough engineer Mike Galet of Gateway Engineers said his team was not involved in the project or grant process.

He deferred questions to borough manager Donna Kaib, who did not return multiple messages seeking comment.
