School is back in session for students in Quaker Valley School District.

The first day of school for students in kindergarten through ninth grade was Aug. 24, while students in grads 10-12 started on Aug. 25.

“It was a wonderful day, and watching our students interact with their friends and teachers was priceless,” superintendent Dr. Tammy Andreyko said of the first day for the younger students. “We have dealt with so much over the last few years. Everyone is eager to turn the page and put a fresh start to this school year.”

She said that the theme for this school year is “Be the Light”

“It is an important piece of how we will work to create a strengthened sense of belonging and connectedness with the entire school community and ties in perfectly with our goals for the 2022-2023 school year and beyond,” Andreyko said.

While the district welcomed some new faces into new positions, including Osborne Elementary’s new principal Ben Canan and high school assistant principal Dawn Hardman, there are still some roles that need to be filled.

“We are off to a great start to the school year, but like many schools, we are still working to fill many positions,” said Stefanie McKissic, Quaker Valley’s director of human resources. “We are currently hiring substitute bus drivers, cafeteria servers and dishwashers, cleaners and cafeteria monitors.”
