Sewickley residents are planning for the borough’s second annual Light Up Night since a covid hiatus.

Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available for the event, which is scheduled for 5-9 p.m. on Dec. 2.

Festivities will take place along Broad Street, from Centennial Avenue to Thorn Street; and Beaver Street, from Blackburn Road to Chestnut Street.

“We learned a lot last year, and we had a great successful event last year,” said Julie Barnes, event committee chair and council vice president. “I’m really confident we’re going to be able to have another successful Light Up Night. It’s an easier process for us because we learned what we need to do.”

The committee is raising money to put on the event.

Major sponsorship levels range from $1,000, “Bronze,” to $25,000 “Presenting,” which includes naming rights to the event, signage, logo on any print materials as well as various mentions online and more.

Tax-deductible donations of any amount also will be accepted.

Organizers hope to get sponsorships for ice sculpting, carriage rides, entertainment and more.

“The more money we can raise, the more of those kind of attractions we can bring back,” Barnes said.

A Pyrotecnico fireworks display is expected to close out the night. That is sponsored by Esmark.

Other entities such as the Tull Family Theater, Sewickley Public Library and several churches are expected to have their own activities during the event.

Light Up Night activities last year included free horse-drawn carriage rides, live reindeer, an ice carving competition and performances by Bella School of Dance, PA Academy of Dance, Quaker Valley Vocal Ensemble, Sewickley Academy Jazz Ensemble and the Allegheny Brass Band.

There were food trucks and various other vendors.

Barnes said they hope to bring back as many participants and performers as possible.

We’re really early in our planning stages,” she said. “The Village of Sewickley is so conducive to a charming holiday event. It’s a perfect way place to invite our community members to come have fun.”
