Music in the Streets returns to Irwin
Several musicians will perform throughout downtown Irwin June 16 from 5:30 to 11 p.m. during the Music in the Streets event.
Darryl & Kim will perform from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Lamp Theatre courtyard on Main Street, while Band Anna will play at the same time at the Fifth Street parking lot. Donna Groom & Rick Purcell will play from 6 to 9 p.m. on Fourth Street.
Inside the Colonial Grille Tap Room on Main Street, Dave Crisci will play from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
A band also is scheduled to play at Brandy’s on Main.
Library to hold programs on pandemic, reading
A discussion of the 1918 flu pandemic in Western Pennsylvania will be presented by a Westmoreland County Community College professor at 6:30 p.m. June 14 at the Norwin Public Library, Caruthers Lane, Irwin.
Tom Soltis will summarize the arrival, spread and impact of the pandemic in the region during the free program. More than 500,000 Pennsylvanians were infected by the disease and more than 50,000 people in the state died from the flu, including more than 2,200 deaths in Westmoreland County. Registration is requested and those interested should call the library at 724-863-4700, ext. 3.
Meanwhile, the Adult Summer Reading Program — one with a twist — is seeking those who will read for 2,022 minutes between June 13 and Aug. 31.
Participants can get a reading log at the library. Upon completing the challenge, readers can turn in their logs and receive a collectible sea creature pin.
All entries will be eligible for a prize at the end of the summer.
