The Pittsburgh region will likely see between three and five inches of snow Friday night into Saturday, according to forecasts from the National Weather Service.
National Weather Service meteorologist Lee Hendricks said they anticipate the precipitation will begin as rain Friday, then change over to a mixture of rain and snow in the evening.
“Then it’s going to change to snow totally after midnight,” Hendricks said.
About one to three inches will likely fall overnight, with additional snow falling Saturday morning. The region will likely see between three and five inches before snow begins to taper off Saturday afternoon, Hendricks said.
“This is going to be a relatively wet snow, so it’s not going to blow around a great deal, but it will be very heavy for shoveling,” Hendricks said. “With the wetter snow, when you drive on it, it can turn into ice as it compacts.”

Once the worst of the snow is finished, he said, scattered snow showers may persist Saturday afternoon and evening, but likely won’t add much more accumulation.
Temperatures Saturday will remain in the upper 20s, Hendricks said. The snow storm will bring windy conditionss with gusts reaching up to 35 miles per hour.
“It’s going to be a raw Saturday night,” Hendricks said, adding that the temperature overnight Saturday is expected to plummet to 14 degrees.
Sunday’s forecast looks “a little better,” Hendricks said, with no precipitation and a high temperature in the mid-30s.
“Hopefully, this is the last gasping effort from winter,” he said.
Temperatures are expected to feel more like spring early next week, with high temperatures in the mid-50s Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will likely see temperatures jumping to 60s.
