The holidays mean cookie time for many people, and Blawnox is welcoming the holidays with the community’s first-ever Holiday Cookie Tour of the business district.

The event, sponsored by the community group, Best of Blawnox, is scheduled for Dec. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. It is free and open to the public. People can walk along Freeport Road in Blawnox and visit participating stores to try a cookie and pick up a recipe or two, in addition to doing a bit of holiday shopping, said Diane Casile, president of Best of Blawnox.

“I thought it would be a nice thing to have people walk in and meet the (business ) owners as opposed to driving past.”

The organization will be hosting a table at the town’s veteran’s monument at the corner of Freeport Road and North Avenue, where it will provide maps showing all of the participating businesses. She said she’s seen other communities host similar cookie events, but this year will be the first for Blawnox.

“My goal is trying to get to people to come to Blawnox. It’s a little town and such a nice town,” said Casile.
