Those who have gone to see a film at the Tull Family Theater in the past few months might have noticed that the theater now has a BYOB option for guests over the age 0f 21.

The policy became effective in June, allowing audience members of legal drinking age to bring either a six-pack of beer or a bottle of wine into screening rooms.

“Tull Family Theater is still a young organization eager to explore a long list of ideas — and BYOB was one of them,” said Carolina Pais-Barreto Thor, CEO of the theater. “With smaller audiences during the pandemic, the timing was right to pilot the concept.”

Thor said the concept has been received “extremely well and with complete adherence to our BYOB policy.”

The policy also considers the comfort of those who aren’t interested in the option.

“The policy outlines the corkage fee ($10), type and amount of beverages permitted, check-in protocol, together with required conduct and, of course, necessary proof of age,” she said.

Per the policy, liquor of any kind is not permitted.

Unbreakable glasses and wristbands are provided at check-in.

Thor said most people who participate in BYOB do so on weekends and seem to enjoy the option.

“Dear Evan Hanson,” directed by Pittsburgh native Stephen Chbosky, opened at the Tull Theater on Sept. 24, bringing the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit to the screen. In addition, “Cry Macho,” starring and directed by Clint Eastwood, is showing. “The Addams Family 2,” “King Richard,” “No Time to Die” and more are all upcoming.
