It’s a singular pleasure to savor a glass of wine at the end of the work week. Sharing it in the company of about 100 like-minded folks just ups the enjoyment.

Westmoreland Walks offered that experience during its Pink Corks at the Vineyard fundraiser, held Friday at Bella Terra Vineyards in Hunker.

The late-afternoon gathering started with an array of appetizers from Applebee’s, accompanied by a selection of the winery’s popular vintages.

A picnic-style dinner of barbecued chicken, mac ‘n cheese and cole slaw was topped off with a Pittsburgh cookie table of epic proportions, courtesy of Tyler’s Bakery and Cafe, Marcie’s, Truly Wize Gluten-Free Bakery, Ligonier Giant Eagle, Greensburg Shop ‘N Save and Friends of Westmoreland Walks.

Attendees tried their luck on silent and Chinese auctions, a 50/50 raffle and chances for a vintage kitchen chair painted in an original pink, black and white design by Debbie Sarault, owner of Betsy’s of Ligonier.

Westmoreland Walks was founded in 2002 by a group of women whose lives had been touched by breast cancer. The organization raises funds for the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition, a Spa Serenity Day for women with a breast cancer diagnosis, and a Pink Ribbon Scholarship for a Westmoreland County senior whose life or family has been affected by the disease.

Its major fundraisers include a Pink Ribbon Walk, Passionately Pink Fashion Show and SereniTea.

In 2013, the group started a Pink Angel Fund for families experiencing hardship due to breast cancer, helping with insurance copays, funding supplies such as lymphedema sleeves and even paying for groceries and meals.

Information is available at westmorelandwalks.org.

Co-chairs for Pink Corks at the Vineyard were Trish Fite and Cindy Shaffer.
