A new Sewickley council member is expected to be appointed at a special meeting as officials continue to search for a borough manager.
The meeting is scheduled for July 6.
Candidate interviews are expected to start at 6 p.m. with a voting session afterward.
Council president Jeff Neff said two people applied for the vacant post as of Wednesday
The vacancy was created with the resignation of Christine Allen of Ward 1.
She submitted her resignation via email May 24 after an executive session. It came a little less than two weeks after Marla Marcinko was terminated as borough manager in a split vote. Allen voted against firing Marcinko.
Council accepted Allen’s resignation at its June 8 meeting.
The remaining members have 30 days to appoint her replacement before the matter goes before a vacancy board and then possibly to the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas, where a judge could make an appointment.
Ward 1 boundaries include the north end of Blackburn Road and the west side of Beaver Street.
Deadline for 1st Ward residents to submit a letter of interest for the position July 2.
The vote was 5-4-1 to fire Marcinko on May 11 after a closed-door discussion in an executive session.
Mayor George Shannon cast the deciding vote following a split on council, 4-4-1.
Neff, council Vice President Todd Renner, and members Sean Figley and Ed Green voted to fire Marcinko. Council members Tom Rostek, Cynthia Mullins, Allen and Julie Barnes dissented. Larry Rice abstained.
Her last day as a borough employee was May 28.
Solicitor Richard Tucker said Wednesday the borough is working on a separation agreement with the former manager, and a search for her replacement continues.
The search committee includes council members Barnes, Figley, Rostek and Green. None of them returned messages seeking comment on the search.
The committee assisting borough staff includes Rice, Renner and Neff. Mullins is working with the parking authority.
“The borough is running like a fine-oiled machine right now, no issues,” Neff said Wednesday.
No deadline for applications was announced, and it is unclear when the position would be filled.
Rice was appointed as assistant secretary to assist with official document signing in a manager’s absence. There is no salary for the position.
The next regular voting session is set for July 13.
