Drivers in the Alle-Kiski Valley area have one less detour to deal with.

Coxcomb Hill Road in Plum reopened Thursday afternoon, PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan said. That is a day earlier than had been expected earlier in the week.

Coxcomb Hill had been closed to traffic between Logans Ferry and Kerr roads since May 24 while crews worked on the road. Work had originally been anticipated to be finished earlier this week, but took longer because of the impacts of bad weather and an equipment issue, Cowan had said.

Although some traffic could use Logans Ferry to get around the closure, the posted official detour used the New Kensington Bridge, which is also on the detour route for the Tarentum Bridge, which was closed to traffic on Wednesday.

At the Tarentum Bridge, the lanes heading toward New Kensington are scheduled to be closed through Sunday, and the lanes heading toward Tarentum are expected to be closed through June 27.
