Plum officials plan to repair more than 20 streets and alleys as part of this year’s paving program.
Bids are expected to be opened Thursday and a contract awarded at Monday night’s council meeting.
The borough budgeted about $900,000 for paving.
Assistant borough manager Dave Soboslay said they were hoping to do a little more with paving this year, but liquid fuels money from the state was reduced due to the pandemic.
Streets on the docket this year include:
Unity
• Allegheny and Ellwood Avenues.
• Center, Ruth, Perry, Siple and Katz streets.
• Alleys at East, Ruth, Perry and Siple streets.
Holiday Park
• Cayuga, Chaparral, Skyline, Pine Valley, Bar Harbor and Blue Ridge drives.
• Tampico, Greenhaven, Summerhaven and Chateau courts.
East Oakmont
• Lincoln and Penn avenues.
Demetrio Lane was listed as an optional paving project depending on how the bids come in.
Borough Engineer Robert Mitall said roads are evaluated annually, and these are the ones deemed in need of immediate attention compared to other streets.
He said this year’s program covers about the same number of roads with nearly the same amount of funds as in previous years.
Borough public works crews will tend to pre-construction projects such as inlet repairs and storm sewer replacements prior to paving.
“I think the paving program represents the collection of streets and roads that the borough needs to address, specifically based on their material condition,” council President Dave Odom said. “The recommendation that we received for the paving project will give us the opportunity to take advantage of repairing those streets and roads so that they are safe for borough residents.”
Paving is expected to begin in August, weather permitting.
