Norwin High School will be closed Wednesday, as required by the state when a school has six confirmed covid cases within a 14-day period, the district said.

Under the district’s hybrid education model, no students were scheduled to be in the building on Wednesday.

From Jan. 18-26, Norwin reported that seven high school students and two high school staff member had tested positive for coronavirus. Only those students who were in school when determined to be infectious during the 14-day period, are counted for purposes of the state requirement to close school, the district said.

Norwin also canceled after-school activities that were scheduled for the high school on Wednesday.

The building will be cleaned, sanitized and ventilated, as is typical for Wednesdays, the district said.

Norwin anticipates that one-half of the high school’s 1,600 students will be able to return to the building on Thursday, as scheduled.

Students and parents will be notified should the closure be extended.
