Here are some of the upcoming programs offered at Northland Public Library. Some of the virtual programs require registration online at northlandlibrary.org or by calling 412-366-8100. The library is located at 300 Cumberland Road in McCandless.
• Islam 101, Nov. 19, 7 p.m. — Did you know that the Islamic faith shares a common ancestor with Judaism and Christianity, and Muslims make up about a fifth of the world population? Join Christine Mohammed and Ishfaq Ahmad as they explain the basics of the Islamic faith, dispel some of the misconceptions and introduce you to the local Muslim community. Registration is required for this virtual program. A Zoom link will be emailed the day before the program.
• It’s a Hockey Night In Pittsburgh: 1983 to Today, Dec. 3, 7 p.m. — Staff from the Senator John Heinz History Center will trace Pittsburgh’s hockey history from its beginnings in Oakland to the Consol Energy Center. Registration is required for this virtual program. A Zoom link will be emailed the day before the program.
• Pumpkin Pie Scones: Nov. 21, 3 p.m. — Simply Creative Chef Rob will conduct a family baking class, making pumpkin pie scones with a spice glaze. No registration is needed for this virtual event. More information is available online.
• Thanksgiving Story Stroll, Nov 23-28 — Spend part of the day strolling along the library grounds while reading “Thanksgiving at the Tappletons” by Eileen Spinelli. No registration required.
• Disguise the Turkey: Through Nov. 25 —Kids are invited to help the “Northland Turkey” avoid ending up on the Thanksgiving dinner table. Children can pick up a blank template of the turkey and use whatever craft supplies they choose to create a disguise. More information is available online.
• Zoom Music and Movement, Nov. 19 at 10 a.m. — Dance a little, use simple instruments and listen to a story with Ms. Kim all in the comfort of your home. Registration is required for each program date. A Zoom link will be emailed before each program. Since space is limited, please sign up only for sessions you will be able to attend.

• Dungeons & Dragons “oneshot” kits — Run your own Dungeons & Dragons adventure with a kit that includes everything you need to run an oneshot adventure for four to six friends. The kits are designed for children ages 12 to 18 who are beginning players to those already at level 20. Available on a first-come first-serve basis as supplies last in the teen room. Each month’s kit will be a different oneshot.
• Teen Take-and-Make kits — Kids ages 12 to 18 can pick up a project to make at home. You’ll get the supplies and instructions you will need to begin creating. Please register for your kit so we know how many to put together. Go to the Calendar page on the Library’s website to sign up. Registration begins on the first day of each month.
