Matthew Hicks and Jack McCormack, both seniors at Quaker Valley High School and members of Troop 243 in Sewickley, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on Oct. 4.
Eagle Scout is the highest rank Scouts can attain, with only three percent of Scouts achieving the rank. To earn the rank of Eagle, scouts earn at least 21 merit badges and demonstrate leadership and community service by organizing and carrying out an Eagle project.
For his Eagle Scout project, Hicks planted trees at Legacy Fields for ecology conservation. Captain of the Mock Trial Team at QVHS and cellist for Pittsburgh Youth Concert Orchestra, Hicks plans to attend college and study law. His parents are Bill Hicks and Linda Diamond.
McCormack, who is also a Junior Assistant Scout Master for Troop 243, built park benches for Mary Roberts Rinehart Park. He plans to attend Penn State University and pursue a degree in either engineering or cybersecurity. He is the son of Rich (Scout Master of Troop 243) and Kirsten McCormack.
