Motorists traveling along a section of Perry Highway in Marshall Township will face a nearly 11- mile detour around a major road reconstruction project on the turnpike.
Perry Highway will be shut down in both directions between Thorn Hill and Warrendale Bayne roads beginning at 8 a.m. on Friday. The closure will be in effect until 5 a.m. on Monday.
Right lane restrictions will be in be in place on Perry Highway between Thorn Hill and Freeport road during the closure.
A posted detour will follow the following routes:
• Northbound detour: Warrendale Bayne Road to I-79 south to Exit 73/State Route 910 east to I-79 north to Exit 78 State Route 228 west to State Route 19.
• Southbound detour: Route 228 east to I-79 south to Exit 73/State Route 910 east to I-79 north to Exit 75 Warrendale Bayne Road (State Route 4052) to State Route 19.
The road is being closed so crews can erect beams for the new overhead bridge that will carry turnpike traffic over Route 19.
The bridge beam work is part of a project to reconstruct and widen a 2.39-miles section of the turnpike between the Cranberry Interchange to the Warrendale Toll Plaza. When completed, there will be an additional travel lane in each direction.
To accommodate the wider road, three bridges are being replaced.
Construction began in March and is expected to be completed in September 2022.
