A man was taken to a hospital after suffering a medical emergency while leaving a pool at Sandcastle Water Park on Sunday, a spokesman said.

Spokesman Nick Paradise said park employees were alerted to the situation at 3:15 p.m., and lifeguards and paramedics responded immediately.

The man was treated by Sandcastle staff and Munhall paramedics before he was taken to a nearby hospital, Paradise said.

Paradise said the man was walking to get out of the pool in the shallow end when he collapsed.

“The gentleman was coming out of the pool and had some sort of medical situation,” Paradise said. “He was almost entirely out of (the pool), and that’s when he fell.”

The park is open until 6 p.m., though the section in which the incident occurred was closed off, Paradise said.

Paradise directed further questions to West Homestead Police. A phone message left for them late Sunday afternoon wasn’t immediately returned.
