A third person wanted in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl in Oakmont turned herself into Allegheny County Police headquarters Thursday morning.

Police had issued a warrant for Alexis Herrera, 20, after charging her, along with the victim’s father, Jose Salazar-Ortiz Sr., 29, and stepmother, Laura Ramriez, 27, with homicide, criminal conspiracy, aggravated assault of a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and endangering the welfare of a child.

Herrera and Ramriez also are charged with unlawful restraint and false imprisonment.

The charges stem from an incident June 9 along the 500 block of Tenth Street.

Officers responded to the area shortly before 2 p.m. for a call of an unresponsive child.

Officials said the girl appeared to be badly bruised and malnourished. She was transported to a hospital where she later died, police said.

The child suffered from prolonged physical and mental abuse, police said.

County police arrested Ortiz and Ramriez in Cranberry Township with the assistance of township police. They are awaiting arraignment at the Allegheny County Jail.
