Allegheny County reported 45 new coronavirus cases Monday, more than twice as many from the previous day.

County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Health Department Director Dr. Debra Bogen plan to hold a news briefing at 3 p.m. to provide information about the jump in new cases and what steps the community needs to take to ensure the numbers don’t spike. The briefing will be streamed live on the Allegheny County Health Department’s Facebook account.

On Sunday, the county reported 17 new coronavirus cases. On Saturday, officials reported 20. Last Wednesday, the county reported no new coronavirus cases.

The jump comes amid near-daily demonstrations that have drawn hundreds to thousands of people protesting racial inequality and just more than two weeks after Allegheny County moved to the green phase of reopening.
