Drivers — including motorcyclists — can begin scheduling exams online to obtain their license, PennDOT announced.
The skills test portion of the exam also has been modified to reduce the chances that coronavirus spreads between people taking the exam and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation staff.
The agency announced these safety measures that will be taken during the exam:
• Examiners will stay outside the vehicle during the test while the person being tested and their accompanying driver remain in the vehicle.
• There will be no health pre-screening conducted for people living in counties that have entered the “green phase.” Test examiners in counties still in the “yellow phase” will conduct a basic health pre-screening of applicants. The test will not be administered if an applicant displays any covid-19 symptoms.
• All patrons and accompanying drivers must wear a face masks during testing.
• Examiners will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as masks, gloves and eye protection while administering the exam.
• Examiners will use iPads that are regularly disinfected to administer the tests.
PennDOT also has issued a list of authorized third-party testers for non-commercial driver exams.
