The district office of state Rep. Mike Turzai, who formally resigned Monday from the House of Representatives, will remain open until a successor is elected in November, according to a top-ranking member of the legislature.
Turzai, who served as Speaker of the House, creates a vacancy in the 28th House District, which covers Bradford Woods, Franklin Park, McCandless, Marshall and Pine.
Turzai’s duties as speaker will be taken over by House Majority Leader Bryan Cutler, a Lancaster County Republican.
Turzai’s district office at 125 Hillvue Lane in McCandless will be managed by district Director Sara Bresnahan Kennedy “to assist constituents with issues or problems and continue constituent inquiries already in progress,” Cutler said in a news release.

Turzai, 60, a lawyer, was elected to the House in 2001 and named speaker in 2015.
He announced in January that he would not seek another term in office.
