Kevin Colbert has spent the past 20 seasons employed by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If he has his way, he’ll never collect a paycheck from another NFL organization.
The Steelers general manager, who signed a one-year contract extension last week, wants to retire with the team even though he has no timetable to do so.
“As long as the Rooneys and the Pittsburgh Steelers want me to be a part of this organization, and it’s a good thing for our family, we’ll be here,” Colbert said Thursday.
In 2019, with Colbert going year-to-year on a contract that was set to expire after the NFL Draft in April, a national report speculated that the Carolina Panthers might try to hire him. Panthers owner David Tepper was a former minority owner with the Steelers and this offseason he hired football administration coordinator Samir Suleiman away from the organization.
Colbert, who turned 63 in January, ended any speculation he may leave the franchise that has employed him since 2000. He previously spent five years with the Miami Dolphins and 10 with the Detroit Lions.
“I’m not looking to ever go anywhere else again as long as the Rooneys and Steelers are interested in me,” he said.
