Unity Township supervisors will consider plans for a recycling center near Pleasant Unity at a special meeting on Tuesday.

Westmoreland Cleanways and Recycling ended recycling at its headquarters along Route 30 in Unity, at Innovative Park, as it pursues a planned move of the operations to a larger facility along Pleasant Unity-Mutual Road, just south of Route 130. Citing an existing wooded buffer area, the organization is seeking modification of normal township landscaping requirements.

Supervisors are set to consider approval at the 2:15 p.m. special meeting, after tabling action at the Jan. 9 meeting. Chairman John Mylant said supervisors have since had a discussion with Westmoreland Cleanways Executive Director Ellen Keefe and nearby residents about the residents’ concerns.
