A former subcontractor employee at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in West Mifflin pleaded guilty to embezzling about $250,000 in government money, according to U.S. Attorney Scott W. Brady.
Robert Lazur, 30, of West Mifflin, was employed as a logistics coordinator when he allegedly used company credit cards and opened purchase orders to make hundreds of personal purchases.
Brady said Lazur then sold some of the items on eBay for cash. He kept others for himself and gifted some to friends.
Lazur pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of theft of government funds before U.S. District Judge William S. Stickman.
Lazur’s sentencing is scheduled for March 18 at 10 a.m. He could receive a total sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000 or both. He is out of jail on $25,000 bond.
The U.S. Department of Energy and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conduction the investigation into Lazur. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lee J. Karl.
