When Rosetta Bower signed up for Baldwin’s second annual Day of Caring, she had one request—send Superintendent Randy Lutz.
Bower, 89, was Lutz’s high school bus driver.
“He was a good bus rider. And he’s good now with everything that he does,” she said.
Lutz and nine members of the high school’s football team spent a few hours May 3 at Bower’s Whitehall home pulling weeds from flower beds, mulching and doing other yard projects as part of the Day of Caring—a program Lutz started last year as a way to give back to the community, particularly area senior citizens.
Bower’s home was one of 95 in the Baldwin Township, Baldwin Borough and Whitehall areas where students, faculty and staff donated their time to help with projects. Participants also completed tasks at various organizations throughout the area.
