Bushy Run Battlefield Heritage Society Inc., will host Jason Cherry, author of the newly published “Pittsburgh’s Lost Outpost: Captain Trent’s Fort.”

Cherry will briefly discuss his book during a 10 a.m. program May 4 at the historical site in Penn Township.

The book details the history of former soldier turned trader William Trent and construction of the first fort that formed Pittsburgh’s humble beginnings. As 1753 came to a close, European empires were set on a collision course for a triangular piece of land known as the Forks of the Ohio at the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela rivers. The navigable waterways were valuable to the French to complete their control of the Ohio Valley as the British looked to create a center for their booming fur trade and westward expansion.

“Here at Bushy Run, we are always excited to see new works published on the French and Indian War and related historical events,” says Michael Tusay, Bushy Run Battlefield museum facilitator.

Guests will have the opportunity to purchase signed copies of Cherry’s book and learn more about his research.

Cherry is author of several historical works illustrating his passion for the French and Indian War and prominent figures of the 18th century.
